Microsoft is preparing to re-release Recall, which regularly takes screenshots

NakMo reports: Microsoft is preparing a re-launch of the Recall feature — now with an emphasis on security.
Microsoft has once again announced the release of the Recall feature — a tool that automatically takes screenshots of the user and analyzes them using a neural network. The updated version will first be available to participants in the Windows Insider program (Release Preview channel), and later — to all Windows 11 users.
What is Recall: a "time machine" from Microsoft
Recall is an experimental feature developed exclusively for Copilot+PC. It:
- Regularly takes screenshots of the screen while the user is working;
- Saves the history of actions in encrypted form;
- Allows you to find any applications, documents, and sites with which the user interacted previously.
The idea is to provide the user with intelligent search through the visual memory of the device, as if "rewinding" the screen back.
Why was the release of Recall delayed?
Microsoft initially planned to release Recall in June 2024, but faced a wave of criticism:
- Users expressed concerns about privacy and surveillance;
- Information security experts considered the system vulnerable to leaks;
- Microsoft delayed the release, promising to "improve the security architecture".
Now Recall is returning in a more reliable format, with new data protection measures.
When and to whom will it be available?
🔹 The first to receive the new version of Recall will be the participants of the Release Preview Windows 11 channel
🔹 The full release will take place after the final stage of testing
🔹 The function will be exclusive to Copilot+PC, i.e. it will work on devices with support for AI chips from Qualcomm, Intel or AMD
NakMo's opinion: between convenience and privacy
According to the editors of NakMo, Recall is an ambitious project at the intersection of artificial intelligence and digital memory. On the one hand, it opens up new horizons of convenience. On the other hand, it requires maximum transparency and responsibility from Microsoft.
We recommend that you carefully study the privacy settings and data encryption methods before activating Recall.
