Elon Musk said that the Starship spacecraft will fly to Mars in two years, when the next transfer window between Earth and Mars opens.
This will be a flight without people on board to check the functionality and safety of the systems. If everything goes according to plan, the first manned flight of Starship to Mars could take place in four years, Musk says.
Elon calls the ultimate goal the construction of an entire city on the Red Planet, but, according to the entrepreneur, it may take two decades to implement this plan.
“The goal is to build a self-sustaining city on Mars in about 20 years,” — Elon Musk.
To build a large settlement on Mars, it will be necessary to reduce the cost of delivering payload. In 2024, this is about a billion dollars per ton, and it needs to be $ 100,000. This is “extremely difficult, but not impossible,” the head of SpaceX believes.
