TikTok Stops Working in Russia and the USA What Happened

Many Russians have been using modified versions of the app with servers located in the USA.

As of January 19, 2025, the vertical video service TikTok stopped working in the USA, as it was blocked (possibly temporarily). The app was removed from American App Store and Google Play.

Complaints about TikTok issues are coming not only from Americans but also from residents of other countries, such as Canada, where the service has also stopped working for some users. This has been reported by media outlets and users on social networks.

Russians are also facing problems with the service, as many of them have been using modified versions of TikTok with servers located in the USA due to restrictions imposed in Russia. The "Сбой.рф" service shows more than 3,500 complaints as of January 19.

Along with TikTok, other services of the Chinese company ByteDance, including the video editor CapCut and the platform Lemon8, have also stopped working in the USA. The mobile game Marvel Snap has also been affected, writes TechCrunch.

Meanwhile, Americans are expressing dissatisfaction on social networks, and some have even begun to panic and call 911 to complain about the non-working TikTok. Users report that VPNs do not help, as ByteDance itself has blocked access to the service based on geolocation.
