Gamers Report Burned AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D Processors
Reports are circulating online about the failure of AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D processors, which are used in gaming PCs. According to Tom's Hardware, at least three such cases have already been recorded at the time of publication.
What is Known About the Issue?
Two of the three incidents are related to MSI X870 motherboards, while in the latest case, the processor was used with the ASRock Nova X870E. This raises questions about chip compatibility with certain motherboard models.
Real User Stories
One affected user shared their experience:
"Today, while watching a TV series, my PC just shut down. It didn’t take long to find the cause. It was the Ryzen 7 9800X3D paired with the ASRock Nova X870E. Everything was purchased and assembled within the last month. It ran smoothly, and no high temperatures were recorded at any point. I usually keep HWMonitor open, especially with new builds."
The user also mentioned that they had been building computers for 20 years and had never encountered such an issue before.
The Cause of the Failure is Still Unknown
It is important to note that these processors were not overclocked. The only modification was activating AMD EXPO profiles for RAM, but it is unlikely that this could have led to the processor burning out.
What Should Ryzen 7 9800X3D Users Do?
It is still unclear whether this is a widespread problem or isolated cases. Owners of these processors are advised to monitor temperature readings and, if possible, avoid using EXPO profiles until AMD or motherboard manufacturers provide official explanations.
