Each year, competition in the world of social media and video content grows more intense. Amid discussions of a potential TikTok ban in the U.S., Instagram is actively preparing a response with the launch of Edits, an app that promises to become a powerful tool for Reels content creators.

According to Instagram head Adam Mosseri, Edits is not just another video editor. It is a complete creative toolkit designed for working with video content, offering features that go beyond simple editing.

Key Features of Edits

Mosseri stated that Edits will differ significantly from CapCut, offering a broader range of creative tools. The app will be targeted at a narrower but more active audience, providing opportunities not only for content creators but also for brands looking for new ways to engage with users.

When and Where Can You Download It?

Currently, the app is available for pre-order in the App Store (including in Russia), and the official release is scheduled for March 13, 2025.

It's Not Just About TikTok

This announcement is not Instagram’s first update in response to the potential TikTok ban in the U.S. Last year, the company extended the length of Reels videos to 3 minutes and added a new feed of videos liked by your friends. These are all steps aimed at making Instagram more attractive to users who are accustomed to TikTok.

Now, with the launch of Edits, Instagram is betting on a new video editing tool that could become an important resource for U.S. users searching for alternatives to TikTok and CapCut. With the release of Edits, the company hopes to significantly strengthen its position in the competition for the attention of video creators and brands.
